Transmission LIMP MODE

Well...as if the lunchtime news wasn't bad enough...this happened on the way home from work.

Well on the way home from work today the truck decided to slip into 3rd suddenly and slam into gear. So I got off it, and pulled on a side road. Tow/Haul light started flashing and the truck won't shift out of 1st gear. Could also feel it surging a little around 2grand and not wanting to go over 10mph.

This happend after I just put my truck back to stock because it was missing bad (to the point you could see the vibrations in the mirrors) at lunch time and didn't have much power. What the heck is goin on here? Am I cursed?

A lot of tuners are the death node for the torque shift tranny and I have never heard of a tranny limp mode.

Mine did the same thing only it was a temp sending unit in the tranny , and yes there is a limp mode .Is your temp gauage going wacky ,shifts bad only when warm ?

When the TFT sensor goes bad the tow/haul light will flash along with check gauge light in dash.

I didn't have a check guage light and tranny temp (both stock and ISSPRO guage) were normal. I'm being told by Ford that if my truck has a miss (which it does) that that could have cause irratic shifting.

Once again with clarification;
There is an engine limp mode but never heard of a tranny limp mode.

F250..I dont recall why, but if eng. not running right can effect how tranny works. Even if MIL not on, can u do a scan? Misfire could set a DTC & TIL flashing could set a DTC.

I dont recall anything saying tqshift has limp mode, but it can shift diff. if it gets really cold. Maybe MK will reply?

btw..thought it might be pcm glitch, but probably real long shot due to how u describe problem. Good luck!

There isn't a defined transmission limp mode. If the PCM detects a transmission problem it will change the way the trans operates if needed to prevent further problems. For example if it determines that the OD clutch is bad it won't use second or fifth gear because they both use the OD clutch.

Mine is doing the same thing theres vibration at idle im not used to and when i slow down sometimes i feel a thump in the tranny and when i start it slips a little from 2 nd to 3rd my truck only has 45 k on it and i didnt think i was hard on it,ill admit i didnt have the shift pressure points for the trans on the sct right for awhile or the axle ratio or thr revolutions per mile but that was only for maybe a thousand miles if that, i thought these trannys where strongher than this , i dont race,i just pull about 12k,The ford dealer came up with a intermediate speed fault code but hasnt got back to me , i hope its just a solenoid!!!
