TRANY ? eratic gauge and blinking on light

Have a 2003 Ford F350 dually with a 6.0 and auto trans, Was sitting today and the check gauge light came on the trany gauge went to hot and the light that says on started blink on the shifter. Nothing seems to be acting up with the trany when I drive and the gauge is acting like it has an intermintent short or something. Has any one had this happen and could there be a sensor that is going out? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Todd

There is a temperature sensor on the transmission. It could be a dirty or corroded connection, so try unplugging and checking the connection first (cheap). If that does not cure the problem a new sending unit is probably in order.

Re: TRANY ? eratic gauge and blinking on light

This same thing happened to me. The sensor is actually in the transmission, so you have to drain the pan and take it off to get to it. If I recall, it's toward the passenger side of the tranny. I didn't want to got through the trial/error so I just bought a new sensor. However, it's about $75 for a tiny little plastic thing. Ripoff.

Lastly, if you pull the sensor out (you twist a quarter turn and pull down, there is also a little clip you have to pull down on that locks it in place), watch out because a lot of tranny fluid will pour out of the hole that the sensor fits into and you might end up taking a bath in it.

Good luck!

Re: TRANY ? eratic gauge and blinking on light

Just got your post thank you, I bought the part last Tuesday and did it Tuesday night. Took about an hour to drain the trany, drop the pan replace the part, re-install the pan, change the inline filter, add fluid an back on the road.I didn't do a complete trany fluid service. I didn't drain the torque converter. But the current fluid was only about 18,000k old.

This solves the problem that accured with the "Dummy" gauge, Check gauge light and blinking "on" Light. I would recomend anyone who has this problem and a couple tools fix it themself. I herd that someone was without their truck for 1 week and cost them $591.00 to get this fixed.

Thanks group you guys are Fords best.

PS for the record this is a 03 F-350 Dually 4x4 Lariat, with a 6.0 it is lifted 6" has and 36" tires, 6" exauhst and airriad filter. I have 147,823 miles on this truck the only major issue that cost me $3,500.00 was the high pressure oil injector pump. This happened at 116,000 miles so far so good
