Question Trouble Codes?

Hi all, I'm a new member, a friend referred me to this site. I have a 2005 F350 6.0 powerstroke that I love! It takes me into the mountains, pulling a trailer ,where I escape from reality. I've been having a problem that I took to the dealer just before my warranty expired. The truck will crank over but not start. After trying and trying and trying it eventually starts. The dealer said the code, at that time, showed the drive shaft sensor as being overheated? They uploaded the computer and that seemed to help for a while. They would not change the sensor because the truck started fine while it was at the dealership. Now its happening again. A trouble code shows up on the screen as "TBC Fault", does anyone know what this means? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks....

no such thing as a driveshaft speed sensor, theres an output shaft speed sensor that could be bad, dont know how they would tell if it was overheated and it wouldnt keep it from starting. the tbc will always flash after cranking for a few seconds tbs is trailer brake controller. did they get it to not start when it was at the dealer?

From your owners manual:

TRAILER FAULT: The TBC is capable of determining certain faults in the
vehicle wiring and trailer wiring/brake system. These faults do not mean
there is anything wrong with the TBC. This message is displayed when one of
the following faults has occurred:
. Short circuit on the electric brake output wire: If the TRAILER FAULT
message is displayed with no trailer connected, the problem is with the
vehicle wiring from the TBC to the 7-pin connector in the bumper.
If the
message is only displayed with a trailer connected, the problem is related
to the trailer wiring; consult your trailer dealer for assistance.
. Trailer brake overload: The trailer's brakes are drawing too much
current; consult your trailer dealer for assistance.
Note: Your TBC can be diagnosed by your authorized dealer to determine
exactly which trailer fault has occurred; however, if the fault is with the
trailer this diagnosis is not covered under your Ford warranty.

Are all of your fuses in tact?

TBC Fault error message

I just got the TBC Fault message on Sunday. No trailer connected but the 20A fuse on #18 burned out, no turn signals, flashers or brake lights. I replaced the fuse, it burned out the new fuse as well.

One twist on the story, recently, when applying the brakes there was a lot of noise in the stereo system and then the stereo cut out completely until the brake pedal was fully applied, like at a stop sign. Then the stereo would work again with the brakes on.

We have had some heavy rain in New England so I'll pull the trailer connector apart and see if there is moisture in it.

Any other recommendations?

Sounds like you have a high pressure oil system problem. That particular model is bad to wear a groove in the STC fitting which in turn allows hp oil to bleed off.Sometimes the fiiting will fall back together and crank fine for awhile and then start giving you no start problems again all of the sudden.just depends how bad it has worn at the snap ring as to what intermitant symptoms you may see.One things for sure when it finally blows apart game over.Generally throws a code for lower icp than desired during crank. This is just a guess from the little experience I have with these engines.

Lucky for me, I don't know what the STC issue is about but I kind of wonder if this reponse might have ended up in the wrong place, the topic was TBC Fault errors. The TBC seems to be unrelated to oil systems, it is a trailer brake control topic--I think

??? It seems to me, the OP stated he was having problems getting the truck to start. That issue could easily be related to the HPOP system...

The TBC code is mentioned because it was a code that popped up..

To the OP, the starting problem could be the HPOP system. Especially if the snap to connect (STC) fitting has not been repaired previously (a known problem on 05 models). It could also be related to your Fuel Injection Control Moduel (FICM)....
