turbo bark while towing

I was towing a 27 foot encolsed trailer and when I let off the throttle the turbo would bark or burp. It also does this when lighty pushing the throttle with low boost. What would cause this?

Top..Welcome!

Lots of info./help on this forum. Also check out the search/archives. Meantime...if building fast boost & you quickly let off go pedal..noise (fart) sound you hear is excess boost being dumped back thru intake & is considerd normal. However..

If you hear same (similiar) noise under light boost & not quickly letting up on go pedal, that might not be normal.JMO! Look for updates. Good luck!

Does it make this sound repeatedly every second or two, make a puff of smoke out tail pipe, & feel a slight quick hesitation each time it barks??
As earlier mentioned, it is normal when quickly letting off pedal. Is your truck stock?

I had the same problem, I rebuilt the turbo variable vain assy and I never get any turbo flutter at all now. Mine was very coked up and I would estimate the unison ring would only move about 30% of it's range. It took me about 4 hours start to finish. Ford and International both have a TSB on the subject. I also added the new oil drain tube at the same time. Hope this helps.

improved oil drain tube

The new oil drain tube part# is PN 6C3Z-9T515-A. As I recall, it comes with the new o-rings, but you will need to buy the paper gasket for the oil supply line. This is the only part you need to buy to do the job.

Thanks. Do you remember what the price was for the drain tube and the paper gasket?

prices &TSB

About $20.00 for both. Also, here is a link to the TSB that describes the cleaning procedure for the turbo. http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricant.../tsb/07214.pdf
