Turbo failed while towing

While towing through the mountains this weekend in my 05 6.0, I came down a long grade with the tow/haul selected and when I got to the bottom I had no turbo. I could barely keep up with traffic. I figured it had failed so I pulled over to have a look. I turned off the truck and restarted and then it worked again. Any ideas what could have caused this? I was towing around 7000 lbs and sure like this new transmission in the tow/haul mode but can't understand what caused my turbo to just quit and then work again.

Re: Turbo failed while towing

Sounds like and electronic glitch, possibly that set a code. If you cycled the ignition key (Key off, key on) then restarted and it was okay, you likely had a fault that set a code. Ask your dealer to pull codes and check for "endplay" in the turbo itself. Likey electronic, not the turbo itself.

Re: Turbo failed while towing

Longbow Pilot, I had the same thing happen to me when I first got my truck, it is a 2004 however. I had the dealer look for a code, thinking for sure it threw one, dealer found no code and it hasn't happened since.
I was coming down a long grade coming into Saratoga and the truck blew a puff of black smoke and when i went to accelerate there was nothing, the turbo just quit, so I limped it to the nearest town and shut the truck off, called the dealer and the service writer said to try and start it again and see if it would work. Restarted and I haven't had a problem since. took it to dealer and no codes were found. I quess I will chalk it up to gremlins or magic, gotta be one of the two. Keep us informed if your dealer finds anything wrong with yours.
