Turbo farts again. Ford just "cleaned" the turbo a month and a half ago. No it is worse than ever, sometimes. Took me 10 minutes to try to explain to the Ford Dealer what was going on, and I am not sure they ever understood. I called a local company today that specializes in all things turbo, and I was not 10 seconds before they said with confidence that the turbo was coked up, and I need to remove it for them to clean it. That would cost me $800.00.
I did some searching on here, and found someone who had done the cleaning himself, not so sure if I am that confidant. Any ideas? Though most seem to know what is causing it, no one will say, but everyone will take my money
Hmmmmm, I just noticed there is a "Chevy Truck Month" add banner midway up this page. They have "Full size deals on full size trucks", all I have to do is scroll over for more. Funny

So they want to charge you $800 to clean the turbo after YOU remove it? I would run away from that place, that's outrageous!
If you are mechanically inclined you should be able to clean it yourself. I would just budget a day for you to remove the turbo, clean and then re-install.

I found a thread from 2 years ago, and someone with a black 4 door truck had taken it apart and cleaned it. I did not look too bad. I got some cool tools, but it is the operator I am worried about
Anyone wanna PM me with information?

My 03 was doing the same thing. The tech put the computer on it and found a couple of codes . They were all egr related as well as a code for a sensor on the turbo. He said a bad sensor can cause the same sound. He cleared the codes and red lined the engine . The truck has ran fine ever since. He said if it does it again its probably the sensor if it dosent then we should clean the turbo.
It is very easy to pull off & put back in the turbo. You do not need any special tools. A couple of sockets, wrenches, & some penetrating oil. As far as cleaning goes, you need brake cleaner, rags, & a small disc grinder to scrub off rust.
I actually ended up buying a reconditioned one because I found it had a broken blade on the exhaust wheel. I paid $790 for it & it came from a highly reputable company here in MI. It is robbery for you to be charged $800. I did mine total time including replacing ICP sensor in about 6 hours.
Don't waste your time talking about it forever & hoping it is something else. I did that & still found myself doing the turbo.
If it is rusted, you can't keep that from happening. My unison ring was rusted to the housing tight. It was not working properly, for obvious reason. Mine was not coked up though. I believe that may come from an EGR issue. Don't waste your $ paying for that to be replaced either. Clean it or replace it yourself. That task is very simple. If you need any help, just ask. I did mine about 6 weeks ago. Good Luck!
