A while back I posted a question about the sound of the turbo under the hood when going down the highway. I had no replies, but carried on rationalizing it in my mind. When I am pulling a hill at a steady speed the turbo sounds like it is oscelating. The pitch of the turbo is changing up and down.
I thought maybe that it was just the turbo bleeding off boost, but I am not sure. I just want to make sure that it is normal. I have had various waranty work done and whe they scan everything it comes back clean. Just want to make sure that there may not be an updated sensor that I may need. I want to make sure it is ok before I touch my exhaust
Thanks in advance, Chris

Your turbo is a VGT(variable geometry turbine) The vanes change postion as load changes per the PCM commands based on the input sensors and operating strategy.

One of the sensors is the EBP (Exhaust Back Pressure) sensor. It may be faulty and the oscillation is one of the symptoms. It usually does not leave a code.

I'll look into it. I wonder if it would be easier to do myself if it is cost effective. I hate having to go back to the dealer. Well maybe I can call the dealer that is bigger and won't mind doing the work, only if they can do it while I wait. Thanks again, Chris
