Re: Turbo spools up at idle

Yes,it's the turbo cycling which is caused by the new flash.
I think it's pretty annoying!

Re: Turbo spools up at idle

O.K. How is the turbo supposed to "spool up" at idle??? I ask only because the turbo is EXHAUST driven and what can it do without changes in engine RPM?????

Re: Turbo spools up at idle

I think it has to do with the turbo being a "variable geometry turbocharger". The PCM controls the pitch of the vanes in the exhaust side of the turbo. If I remember correctly, at idle it will cycle the vanes a little bit to help with some problems Ford had with trucks that idled too much and had some issues with the vanes getting stuck due to rust and build up. Cycling the vanes slightly at idle helps alleviate this problem.

Re: Turbo spools up at idle

No problem.I noticed my truck doing it after I had my truck flashed.I got out of my truck to get the mail when I got home and it went from hissing to sounding like a big block idling.I was like what the heck is that.Carried it back to the dealer and they checked it out and didn't know why it was doing it .
Got on another website and asked about it and was told it was the turbo cycling due to the flash.Keeps the turbo from sticking during periods of prolonged idling.

Mines doing that too, but it's also doing it while driving which is no bueno as boost drops to 0.
