Turbo surging....correct root cause?

I believe I have seen people with this problem on here before.
My truck....2003 6.0L......90K miles.
Under steady throttle or cruise control I have a "surging" turbo condition. Not huge impact to the MPH, but it can be felt in the seat.
What is the correct root cause of this problem?
I think I saw someone post that it was the ICP? sensor that had oil in the connection?
Will this be covered under the 100K engine warranty?
I was going to have this fixed along with the 06E17 and 04S15 recalls.
I have also had a few occasions where my "check engine" light will stay on for a few days then turn off....maybe the code is in the memory? Hopefully related to the cruise turbo surge issue I am having.

Re: Turbo surging....correct root cause?

I had the same issue on my 2003 X and it was the VGT control valve not the turbo. If so, should be covered under 100K.

Re: Turbo surging....correct root cause?

Thanks guys.
Truck will be brought to the dealer for the 06E17 recall as well as to have the VGT replaced for the surging turbo...if not the turbo itself.
My check engine light has come on again....I believe it is from the mild surging of the turbo...hopefully not some other problem.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Re: Turbo surging....correct root cause?

I had a surge that at steady speed you could feel it and see the tach move, it turned out to be 2 injectors. When my turbo(s,4) went, the truck acted as if it was missing and cutting out under throttle. All was fixed under warrenty.

Re: Turbo surging....correct root cause?

Until the truck is actually scanned by someone who knows what they're looking at, guessing would be a waste of time. The computer will tell me far more information than a customer ever can.

In fact, it got so bad at one point at the last dealer I worked at that when the manager wanted me to listen to a description from the owner - along with the owners inevitable hypothesis and neighbor's opinions - that I brought a scan tool to the service drive with me. I didn't speak to the owner until I had some preliminary information from the truck.

What sig?
