Re: Undercarriage alot of rust

My 03 came new with a lot of rust underneath. I just sprayed it and it has been good since. I had a post about this earlier and all the responders seemed to think this was normal. Dosen't seem to me that there should be any rust on a new truck. jmho.

Re: Undercarriage alot of rust

New trucks still sit on a lot outside the plant or a train yard so rust can happen pretty quick.

It's metal, it's going to rust. My 97 F250 HD is pretty rusty; the spare tire carrier finally gave out when I was putting in fence around the pasture. It broke loose toward the front, but not completely free and when it finally hung up on the ground it lifted the back of the truck up as it ran over it. Scared the bejeebies out of me as I had no idea what it was til I got out and saw the spare tire and carrier on the ground.

Re: Undercarriage alot of rust

They could build the truck so it wouldn't rust or at least wouldn't for at least 5 years +++. But the truck is expensive at it is so to lower cost they lower quality and cut corners. Paint the undercarriage of your truck with epoxy and urethane and look at it in 10 years. You will probably have more rust on a truck in a dealer lot than you would with that kind of paint system.
