venting coolant / overheating

my father has a 07 f350 6.0 with 63k... truck was overheating... dealer found degas bottle was cracked, found coolant in the oil, had to vent liquid out of the intake system. got the truck back and about 150 miles later began vent coolant from somewhere, looks like it might be coming out of the cap (which had been replaced) ...did not appear to be overheating again. took it back to the dealer and they said they can't find anything...200 miles later it's doing it again, venting coolant all over the engine compartment????? Any thoughts???? maybe head gasket???

Im no expert but have been researching this degas cap spitting out coolant for myself and it sounds like a headgasket. Im at 93k on my '03 and thinking this might be the time to step up to an '08.

Almost definitely the head gaskets. If coolant is in the oil it's probably coming from the oil cooler on the engine.

Just went through this with my 04 after towing the camper home back in October. Started off as an egr cooler, then fan clutch, oil cooler checked out okay, but the head gaskets were starting to go. While at the dealership, they found an 09 close to what I was going to order in the spring, so with equity in my truck, employee pricing, rebates, etc., I now have a new 09 in my garage as of tonight. It has been a fun ride these past few years with the 6.0 as it was trouble free until this year when we got the bigger camper. See ya up on the 6.4 forums..

I went through this with my truck, minus the coolant in the oil. I did the EGR delete and it took care of the problem for me, but in your case I would say the it is almost certainly a blown head gasket.

I have to agree - just went through the whole discussion at the dealer about symptoms of head gasket failure. With that info and other info obtained here I think most likely head gasket. Especially if he plans to keep the truck, get it off the road and diagnosed quickly before it turns into a real headache. I just had to do the EGR cooler replacement. Hoping that's all, but don't really feel comfortable with longevity of this engine.

If the head gaskets are gone, and you read the forums here you probably know about the alternative head bolts. Might be time to check into them, but with an 07 he probably still has warranty left too, so maybe its worth talking to the servicing dealer to see if he buys them, they'll install them. Seems to go a long way towards keeping this problem from reoccurring.
