I have a 2005 F350 dually diesel with less than 22,000 miles on it. I also have a Ford primuim care 7yr./70,000 mile warranty with $0 deductible. The other day I drove it to work (25 miles) and when I parked it, smoke was pouring out of the left rear wheel and it smelt like burning brakes. So, I drop it off at Ford this morning and they call me back. They told me they are ordering me a new caliper and re-surfacing my rotor. I asked about replacing the pads and they told me they werent damaged and if they put that on the warranty tag, Ford would reject the whole claim. Sounds like BS to me. I know brake pads are wear items but when a defective part causes excessive wear, I thought they would be covered. Any input would be appreciated.
As I understand these Ford extended warranties, they include wear items like brakes and shocks the same as if they had failed within the 3-yr/36,000 mile period. It's not like some accountant somewhere goes over each item on the paperwork with a red pencil. Any item covered under the terms of your specific warranty is pre-programmed into the computer system. Have them key the pads into the computer and see if replacement is accepted or rejected.

If for whatever reason they deny you the pads, you may just wanna buy some yourself and have them install them while doing that.... with that being said,
Sounds like BS to me. Though it sounds like they're just trying to get out of it with as little as possible into it. Resurfacing a rotor? Not a fan of that personally...
Some items are not covered by the extended warranty, ie: wear items, clutches, brakes & other items that are considered wear items. The dealer makes a profit on every part they sell back to Ford or to any other warranty company. Most warrant parts mark-up is at least 30%. If they could replace the pads under warranty they more than likely would since they make a profit on the parts anyway.
Well, I went to pick up my truck this morning at the dealership and when I started it up, the information screen read TBC fault. I ended up leaving it there again and now this afternoon it is fix. They needed to replace the EBC transducer. They swore up and down that it didn't say that yesterday when they were bleading the brakes. I guess it must have happened last night when it was parked at the dealership. Oh well, its fixed now.

They are trying to cover their you know whats. Ford is suuuuper strict on warranty items these days. It's insane. People want to quit every day. Claims get rejected left and right. One tech at my dealer had a claim rejected, the truck had a blown EGR cooler. He replaced the EGR cooler and oil cooler heat exchanger as directed by the TSB. After replacing the EGR cooler he found the head gaskets were blown. He replaced the head gaskets, truck was fixed. The Ford warranty assessor kicked the claim because they said the tech should have done the EGR cooler, oil cooler, and head gaskets all at once. There is no way to determine head gaskets are leaking with a blown EGR cooler. We were like ***. Another dealer had a claim kicked on a brake job. The warranty assessor told them the rotor they replaced was machineable and even provided a picture of the rotor. Too bad the rotor in question was still at the dealer, the parts department had never received a 700 claim for any rotor to be sent back to Ford for inspection. To my knowledge Ford uses outside companies to do this kind of work. Google "Ford warranty assessor" and expired job postings pop up. Anyone with diesel experience could get the job, but that dosen't mean they know what they are doing. I spoke with one assessor picking one of my repair orders apart and he toted "I was a tech for 10 years, and then a service manager up until 1995, I know what I'm talking about". I was floored. The cutting edge for this guy was when OBDII came out in 94! He is trying to tell me how to repair a 6.0L with 4 unrelated issues. Basically Ford has put dealers in a corner with their scare tactics. "Repair 210% over national average" is what our warranty clerk gets for repairs as simple as replacing an EGR valve. They send that message to the dealer warranty clerk hoping they go "oh s#$%" and lower the labor rate or remove parts from the claim and then resubmit a lower dollar amount. It sucks to be a tech right now, it really sucks being a warranty clerk.
