Ok, so my water in fuel light comes on and I get around to draining it two days later. When I unscrew the plug I get about 6 ounces or so of liquid (I assume a mix of water and fuel). While I'm at it I change both fuel filters. I think this should take care of the light but after a few hours it comes back on. The next dayI drain it again and as before I get about 6-8 ounces of drainage.....hmmmm....light goes out. Whoa....next day, light is back on and I go through the same scenario all over again.
First off, should I be getting that much drainage? I don't remember getting that much on previous drains. Second, could it be that I just have a dirty sensor and if so is it is to clean? Right now the truck runs very rough at first start but after it warms up it seems to be just fine....maybe I got a tank of bad fuel ....

If I try to drain with more than half a tank, I can get a gallon or two out.
I didn't see in your post - do you actually have water in your fuel? Little bubbles on the bottom of the container? It is possible that your sensor has become corroded, and needs to be replaced.

Before you spend the time and money to replace the sensor you might want to try a little carb cleaner in the drain. A few years ago my light was on and wouldn't go off after draining. I stuck the straw up in the drain hole and gave it a real good flushing. All kinds of crap came out and I haven't had a problem since then. I just did it again today as I changed my filters.

Make sure you are catching the drained diesel in a glass and look at it (i keep a 1qt clear bottle with a cap in the truck for this purpose). I suspect you just got a bad tank of diesel and you just need to keep draining. It happened to me and i was draining it very often (in the beginning every couple of hours and then less as time progressed). Since the light is going off then your sensor is likely ok. When they go bad the light generally stays on. Just keep draining when it goes on and after the current fuel is used up it keeps going on then look further. The 6oz drain seems about correct. Just make sure you open the tank fill cap as the pressure in the tank can cause more to drain out then necessary. The rough running may be a reason to get the latest flash. The induction flash was supposed to fix rough cold running and sometimes hard starting due to the injectors sticking. Was it flashed with in the last year?
Where did you spray the carb cleaner in from, the drain plug hole or unscrew the filter and sray it in there?
Thru the drain plug hole. You just have to work aroud the front drive shaft the best you can. As was later stated, your sensor is probably OK since the light does go out, but I don't think you have anything to lose in cleaning out the sensor area. Just my dos pesos.

No flashes ever on this truck.......I had run that tank of fuel down to about 1/4 tank then refueled and put in some diesel fuel supplement....hopefully it clears up soon, this is getting old.
