weird problem

Hello

New to the forum and have a problem.Thought ya'll might be able to help.

I have a 2003 6L with 118,000 miles. Religious on maintence.
The problem I am having is just recently it has started acting as though it is loading up when decelerating and pulling my trailer and coming to a stop. If I put it in nuetral and rev it a little it will blow alot of black smoke and take off fine. If I do not it has no power for a moment and then will clear itself and go. I am getting no service light so I have no code to download. Is it possible that I have a bad EGR valve?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks in advanve

Jeff

Re: weird problem

I'd say check the EGR valve. Its not too tough to pull out and inspect/clean. Quite a few posts on this task. But first, welcome and congrats on over 100K!

Re: weird problem

From everything I have read and understand (I'm still new to these engines) it sounds like your EGR valve is sticking. There is a good write up and removal procedures on www.forddoctorsdts.com

Re: weird problem

I'm actually have a simular problem with mine too.....I have 62,000 miles on mine. I was crusing along the freeway with my foot not moving on the gas and the truck started to build boost, then it would drop to zero, then it would build boost to 5psi or so then it would go back down. While this was doing this the engine when from sounding normal to really really quiet and no turbo noise. When it built boost up it would sound like a normal diesel engine with turbo noise. Any idea what makes it do that???

It's at the dealer as I'm writing this for that problem as well as it's first oil leak.
