What?

Driving around town, empty, not towing, all of a sudden trans temp gauge pegs to 12 o'clock, check gauge light comes on and tow light on auto gearshift lever starts blinking. Pull over and shut off engine, climb underneath to check for leaks, none. Start up and check level of trans fluid, good. Drove about four miles home and about a mile from the house it starts shifting really rough into low gears at slow speeds. On the deserted straight road to the house I get into it a little bit and the transmission shifts into at least 4th as smooth as can be with a heavy right foot.

Any ideas about what the lights and rough shifting may be? Help! this is my only form of transportation. Thanks.

Is your trans temp guage gone right to the top?
These same symptoms happened to my 03 but the temp guage went to the top.
It turned out to be a temp sensor inside the trans. Everything was good after it was changed.

Kidder, yes the gauge needle is pointing straight up to 12 o'clock. Did you also have the rough shifting at low speeds and the flashing light on the tow-haul mode light? Thanks.

Yeah, I had the same things going on.
I'm learning but I'm still no mechanic so I took mine to a small shop mechanic that I trust and he was able to replace the sensor.
It is inside the trans so the pan had to be pulled to get it.
I think it was about $70 CDN so I had him do the filter while he was in there.
