What do I need to know about the 6.0L PowerStroke...???

A buddy of mine is thinking about buying a 2003 F250 SD with the 6.0L in it. I've heard a lot of issues with this motor, therefore I'm skeptical of him buying it.
Can anyone tell me what to look for on this motor and what to be aware of and what those issues are before buying it please? Thanks!

What he needs. An oasis report on the vehicle. Needs to do regular oem filters and BATT/ ALT load testing. It all starts with the BATTS. Get a set of gauges for that vehicle! ScanGauge 2/Edge Insight/ or SCT. The ones on the dash are pretty, but useless. Migrate to a syn oil 5w-40, as they prefer it. Do the coolant maint. Check the fuel pressure before he buys @ 58 lbs? Make darn sure that the previous owner did the maint. on the vehicle! Take the gauges w/you when you test drive it. You will thank us all later! That is a great engine and has an undeserved bad rep. in my opinion. Neglect the maint . and drive without knowing the cooler temps = infamous 6.0. But then again, I'll be any make will let you down in a big way if you neglect it or it has been neglected. Make sure the FICM has constant 45 v + at all times,47.5 -48v even better.

Truck appears to have been detailed. Does inside look as good as outside? Seems priced right, considering miles. Any idea what round part is on back bumper (2 pics)?

Considering its lifted & those mud digging tires are nice, wondering how it drive/handles OTR? As mentioned, OASIS using VIN# might show any dealer repairs. Probably has had some parts replaced, but which ones? Would be surprised if it came with any "real maintenace records"? So...

Assume its "as is sale" (no warr.)? If so, as always "buyer beware". Any idea if eng. been modded? SGII could tell you alot about engine or have it checked out. But usually easier said than done. May/maynot be good buy/ride?

btw...black only looks nice (if that matters) if you clean it everyday. Been there/done that & never again.

Okay I'll be sure to do all of that.
The two round things on the rear bumper are for the back up assist because it's the Lariat.
