What Happened?

I've posted this in a couple of places but haven't gotten any response so I'll try here.

This weekend I was acting up a little and "cleaning" my tires. Right after it shifted into second (I think), everything shut down and the engine seemed to go to idle according to the tach. I feathered the pedal and the rpms moved but it acted like it was in neutral. I coasted down a little ways and everything picked back up and went to normal. I was mostly keeping it in a straight line so I wasn't watching the guages. It hasn't acted up again but neither have I.

Re: What Happened?

Did you do your tire cleaning right after an engine start? I believe there is a trans learn period that starts when the transmission hits 110 degrees and lasts for 5 minutes. I know that Edge enhanced trucks have it when the trans is programmed to learn periodic. During that time period, judicious applications of throttle can bring weird behavior from the transmission as it is trying to readapt. I have had it happen to me. Generally a restart will start the prcess over again, and if you wait five minutes the trans should operate normaly even under a heavy foot.

Re: What Happened?

Did you notice the water in fuel light and the glow plug light? My stock 04 does this on occasion after I leave a stop light, right after it shifts to second, the truck loses power a goes to idle for about three seconds, and there is no throttle response.

Re: What Happened?

Well, it kind of sounds like both but since I didn't get any lights, I'm going to hope it's the learning transmission thing. I had throttle response because the tach was moving as I feathered the pedal. The learning transmission would be better. I had in fact just started the truck less than 5 minutes before the event. I sure hope that was it. I'd hate to have to face the fury of a pissed wife so if I don't have to bring it up, we're both better off. I didn't get any warning lights or scary sounds...unless you call an engine going to idle at full throttle scary. Thanks!!
