Can someone tell me what the normal Engine Coolant Temp is in an 04 with a 6.0L Superduty? At what temp should one start to worry if not signs of puking, odor, fluid, or movement on dash gauge?
thanks.
i have a bully dog triple dog programmer and mine at an idle will sit at about 180... on a hot day... but driving around itll get up to 210...and if it gets up to 210 it wont start... i let it cool to anything under210 and itll start dont know why

Yeah ours with the Edge Platinum juice idles around 185 but once we get moving on the warm days we're having it hits 212 sometimes. Just curious as hubby is really concerned that it's running too hot?
using my Dashawk, I get temps anywhere from 180-210 depending on where I'm driving. Usually 205-210 with trailer (11,000 lbs), though it has gone as high as 220 with trailer on longer and steeper grades, but it comes back down. I couldn't get an answer out of tech who did oil cooler as Ford doesn't give them that. Apparently the more important thing to watch is the difference between coolant and oil temps. If the oil stays around 15 degrees hotter than the coolant you could have an oil cooler issue, which can cause other issues (damaged EGR coolers, and puking coolant)

194ish low power setting try to behave driving, and the highest I've seen is 203 high power setting showboating city driving with stop and go. once i hit 202 i tend to back off. All fan shroud has been removed also.

Yikes !
On a steep grade - 7% for a long time (20 minutes) with a moderate load - the oil temp will hit over 240 degrees - while the coolant may hit 230 - Looks like the oil cooler is toast? - Is there an auxillary one available? Usual variation around town is 7 to 11 degrees, Coolant temps drop& rise faster than Oil temps which I expect to be the case. My EGR has the block option instlled.

195 to 204 degrees depending on outside temperature. Towing 24,000 GCVW temps will peak at 228 and oil 230 degrees. Oil temperature of 240 degrees is nothing to be concerned about.

Good to know ! Thanks
Around town Coolant is between 200 & 210 - but I live in Canada and the thermostats are usually set for Winter (Brrrrr) driving.

Hey, we're in Canada as well...Alberta to be exact...we just arrived in BC and our temps hit 220 max pulling some really big hills. We drove 1/2 the way with the EDGE basically shut off, just allowing us to read the temps. The temps did really well, but our fuel mileage was down to 9 miles to the gallon....our trailer is approx 7000 lbs. We switched the edge to level 2 (tow Mode) and our temps stayed in the same range, and our fuel economy increased somewhat, to like around 12 MPG.
Now to improve the fuel economy...arrrrrrrrgh
Thanks to everyone for all their advice and suggestions, keep them coming as it's awesome.
I have a ScanGauge II. My Coolant reads 188 to 195 under load. I dumped my Airaid a few weeks back because I could not believe my intake temps, I installed the Banks Ram Air and now I am pretty much at outside temps when moving and slightly above when stopped.
What are you guys using to monitor oil temps? The ScanGauge to my disapointment does not monitor that sensor that I am aware of.
Oh and I am scheduled for a HG change under warranty. We puked coming over the Berkshires in Western Mass. I have my ARP bolts in the back seat waiting to hand to the dealer. And when it comes home I am installing the coolant filter.
I use the Edge platinum monitor, which has the ability to monitor several parameters and display up to four at a time. Others judging by the posts use a Banks PDA, Bully Dog Outlook, or just tap the oil filter cap and run a oil temp gauge.

Make sure you are looking at the correct scale for temps, F or C. The FORD TSB lists 15C/25F as the reference. My Edge Insight runs in degrees Fahrenheit. On my 2005 6.0L the spread is increasing, but still less than the 25F number. Good luck.Jim

Not neccisarily! I can get those spreads on long 8% grades for 12 miles and starting at 100 degree temps ambient. You have to look at recovery and how you are using your gears. You'r still at 10 degrees diff. I personally think you may be OK.
