Whining Sound from Under Hood...

Hey Guys,
Rather new to the site but what a great resource when our Diesels start making strange noises...

My 2003 6.0L has about 210,000Kms on it and I love this truck... Just the other day a Whining noise came from what sounds like the turbo as I was pulling my Cargo Trailer at about 80km/h. It does not feel any different and it doesn't make the noise when the Turbo doesn't seem to be kicking in... I am not all that familiar with Turbo's and am rather new to the 6.0L but I am quite mechanincal...
I have no engine Mods and no wheel or suspension modifications either...

I just replaced the Air Filter today as well thinking that it may be the filter housing leaking but that didn't seem to corrrect anything... I also inspected the turbo from inside the intake hose and tried to feel if there was any lay in the shaft but all seems good...

Am I missing something? Is there anything else I can do to make sure my Turbo is still working?

Thanks for all your advice guys.. I plan on keeping this truck until the wheels fall off so i would like to get this fixed properly...

Check your intercooler boots. Particularly the one from the turbo to the hot side pipe. You will either need to remove the pipe or get a mirror though, as the usual place for that hose to rupture is on the backside, down near the bottom.

I had a gash in mine about an inch long. Even towing 15K behind me, everything seemed pretty normal except for the fact it made a lot of noise when I had to step into the throttle and I could only make 20psi of boost......

Thanks for the Response,
I agree that it feels and Sunds like a leak somewhere..
Is the Hot Side going to the turbo or away from it?
