Whirrrrrrrrrrr Sound Under Load

Sometimes when I'm towing my gooseneck (11K Pounds) up a steep hill, I hear a noise from my engine that sounds like a whirrrrrrr. If I let off on the gas, it goes away. I don't thrash my truck as this happens while going 55 just to keep up with traffic. Is this the turbo making this noise? Is it safe? I want to get a set of gauge to monitor the EGT's but I'm afraid that my dealership will think I'm up to no good even though I'm not a modder.

Re: Whirrrrrrrrrrr Sound Under Load

I had something like that. I was loosing boost. The flexable hose from the Trubo had a split in it.

It may be low coolant. If coolant's low enough to cause loss of heat on hills, your ride'll sound like there's something revving in front. Let off the pedal and of course it goes away. May be intermittant; constant when coolant goes close to 2 gal low. Leaking coolant hose not that uncommon....
