whomp whomp whomp noise

When ever I let off the pedal after an aggressive acceleration I hear a whomp whomp whomp noise coming from the air filter. It started getting really bad after about 100 miles with the s&b intake on. I believe the correct term is turbo surge??? and it can destroy my turbo, so what can be done to prevent that from happening?
Thanks,
Chris

Noise may just be excess boost being dumped back thru intake. Your s&b intake may increase sound vs stock. Test..standing start..pedal to metal for 3 or 4 seconds (experiment)..let completely up on pedal fast..do u hear same noise?

Often times it is due to an over boost situation also. Clean your turbo.

Mark...would imagine most have heard noise after quickly letting off go pedal after acc., but...

I heard similiar sound when my t. was in process of dying (blade's sticking etc) Beside intermittant loss of & power surge's..it made similair noise except happened while underload/gaining speed. Not really sure why, but it did?

I hear ya OT!

I know that it is a frequently heard noise, but I had a 2005 for a year and my 2006 now for 3 years and have never heard it. I do not have an aftermarket intake and I do not run a tuner. I do think that if it is more than just an OCCASIONAL thing, it would be wise to clean the turbo (but then I am very conservative).

what your are hearing is excess boost going through the s&b intake.. the intake probably increases the noise of the excess boost more then stock..

I'm surprised the 6.0 has been out this long and people still don't know how the VGT works and what noises it can make under certain conditions; like what's being described. Where is that extra boost going to go?
