Whooshing Noise On Heavy Acceleration 05 6.0

I have a 05 powerstroke on which i just installed PPE tuner and a 4" MBRP exhaust.

When I "encourage" the truck to go fast, it makes a loud whooshing noise, it does not do this unless i really get on the throttle. It also seems to lose acceleration whenever this noise is present, but the boost gauge doesn't change. A buddy of mine told me it was the wastegate, but I figured I would get an expert opinion. Has anyone else encountered this issue? It is normal? Or is something wrong? Before anyone says its a leak, I have checked and re-checked all clamps and pipes and it sounds as if it is coming right from the turbo. Thanks!

You have a leaking hose in the intake tract. Check the big hose clamps for tight and look at the blue hoses for splits. You generate boost when you are on the throttle and what you are hearing is the boosted air. You should not hear this.

Ok, so i've checked everything. I tried putting the computer back to stock and it no longer makes the noise..wondering if maybe this programmer does more harm then good. It seems the higher level I put the programmer, the louder the noise gets. Any ideas?

As Dave has said, you have a leak on the pressure side of the system. Check all of the hoses and clamps again. Also, check the intercooler as it may have a split in a tank seam.

Took the truck to the dealer and when they couldn't find a problem or any codes, I personally inspected all the intercooler tubes and the intercooler itself and I could not find a leak. I'm stumped. I did however order an SCT livewire from innovative diesel and I'll see if it does a better job of tuning the truck then the PPE.

I think Odools has the answer. Most likely it is the VGT and that prevents the turbo from overboost.

Haven't heard a boost leak yet, I had a whistle (swoosh) on hard running. Turned out to be the coolant resevoir cap not holding pressure. Cheap and easy stopped the whistle.

Im sure you know this, but puting a tuner, even the lightest of tune and the 6.0 will be blowing headgaskets, turbos and lots of other things. Like hottip said its probably the VGT which prevents the turbo from overboost. My buddies 6.0 has an edge tuner on level 1 and it has completly eaten that motor up. Probably doesnt help that he is on it all the time.

Is it possible that it could be the exhaust back pressure valve closing? Has anyone encountered this?

WDP

This!! It is the cap on the Degas bottle blowing off pressure.....which means you most likely not only need to get a new cap, but a new bottle too.

Your buddies edge only ate the motor up faster than it would have eaten itself up......

With the Edge Platinum you get the turbo cool down timer....which even with the extra hp is better on that turbo than straight stock is when you cut off the truck with a hot turbo and motor.

I love the "death by tuner" speech. I have had a Bully Dog PMT on my '04 6.0L since Dec. 2007 and have run the living dog crap out of my truck. I haven't given it much mercy and it has has no issues caused by the downloader. It really depends on the truck. Most people get a good one and the unlucky ones get the bad apples. If you are having issues before you decide to add a tuner, chances are you probably should refrain from adding one. Otherwise, be sensible with one and chances are you won't have issues. Personally, I'd be quite unhappy with my PSD if it weren't for my PMT.

Not really a speech. Im just basing it on the info the I have read and the info I have received from various diesel mechanics.
