Re: Will it hurt if I put red (off road) diesel in my truck?

Won't hurt the truck but it will hurt your wallet if the authorities catch you! The reason it is lower cost is because it is not taxed. The red stuff is dye (hint).

We buy off road fuel for our equipment. They do come and check our trucks every so often.. Penalty here is back taxes on every drop of off road diesel you have pruchased for the past five years.... We fuel our trucks @ the local station and maintain meticulous records to avoid that lovely little surprise.

Do you have a way to get it? Sometimes that is the hard part unless you have it delivered to your barrel on your property

I have heard stories about authorities checking tanks on pickups at farm auctions. Might just be an urban legend, or should I say, a rural legend.

Re: Will it hurt if I put red (off road) diesel in my truck?

I have been dipped twice; once at Cheyenne Frontier Days and the other at the CO State Fair. Pretty heafty fines, too.

Ford has attempted to deny warranty claims on an '03 rescue truck with C-94 injectors due to the use of non-taxed "red fuel". This particular fuel is low sulfur dyed #2 that is sold to the county for all its trucks and equipment.

Re: Will it hurt if I put red (off road) diesel in my truck?

lol, it will run fine, i will never run that crap in my truck again because when i had my first truck dot pulled me over to check my trailer (cause i was speeding) and i had redfuel, i was sweeting bullets but he didn't check. After that i changed my fuel, fuel filter. And will never run again, but it works fine, i have a buddy with a 03 with about 80k on her and every drop has been koolaid lol.

If you were driving in Northern Virginia about two weeks ago - you had an excellent chance of being dipped. They were out in full force at all rest stops and scale stations.

Re: Will it hurt if I put red (off road) diesel in my truck?

The thing it does is turn your fuel filter dark purple, so its hard to tell when your filter is dirty. But I'm LAKER fan so no big deal. Um, I use it in my diesel forklift.

Yep,
My dad has a construction company and I have access to all the diesel I want for free, but it's all red.

I don't think I am going to do it becuase I don't want to pay the fines, and I don't mind paying taxes to live in a good country.
I just need to talk dad into buying a non-red diesel tank for his other trucks.

Thanks.

Been checked twice , Once in WA and Once in OR . I think they look for "excessive smoke " as some kind of indication for some reason .
