Might as well do a flush to be sure. You don't want to be mixing coolant. I used Zerex G05 in my truck when I did a coolant flush, and installed an aftermarket coolant filter. If I had to do it over again, would have gone with the Ford Gold coolant but that wasn't available when needed.

Mixing antifreeze types runs the risk of building up sludge, have heard. No reason to risk it.

Thanks, I'll get the gold and do a flush. Waiting on the filter.

G-05 is the factory fill for your truck. The difference in Ford Gold and Zerex G-05 is the jug.

I did the flush with the gold coolant. Wish I'd known the G-05 was the equivalent.
The G-05 was $6.00 per gallon cheaper.

Anyway, didn't get any sediment from the flush. Is this a good thing?

Gary

PS

Your gonna ask me how I did it.....

Drained all the coolant I could from the radiator drain then disconnected the hose
from the bottom of the coolant fill tank. Attached an improvised fitting then fed water
there til the radiator drain flowed clear. Filled the system with water then did the same
thing again. Added 50/50 coolant then went for a drive,

Your concentration is probably about 1/4 what it should be. So now you can buy some of that cheap Zerex.

Ford Gold is 100% coolant and needs to be cut 50/50 with distilled water before adding to your truck.

Zerex G-05 is already cut 50/50 and ready to pour.

The coolant is the same but different strenghts so be warned.

Zerex is available as a 50/50 and a concentrate in 1 gallon jugs. But I'm safe because I won't be pouring any of either strength in my truck.

You could all it would take is a flush but since we also have to monitor nitrates just like you do, it would be worthless unless you want a change in color under the hood....

Premium Gold, the maintenance free coolant that requires maintenance....

Zerex

Carquest here has it full strength, they are the only local place that carries it. I tried NAPA, Oreilly's, Auto Value, Auto Zone and Advanced. Good luck.

also you should make suer when you finish the flush to flush any tap water out with distilled water. A bad tap water can cause build up in the engine and radiator over time. When I flush mine all I use is distilled water. You can get it from wally world for a dollar a gallon or less.
