1999 vs. 1999.5 model

I have just purchased a 1999 F350. After looking at a few websites, some mention a 1999 model and a 1999.5 model. How do I determine what my truck is? One more newby question, what changes were made from the 1998 to the 1999?

Love the site and look forward to visiting it a lot.

Re: 1999 vs. 1999.5 model

First off welcome to the site

One way of checking to see if your truck is an 99 or 99.5 is to check the build date on your truck. You can find that on the VIN sticker on your drivers door jam. Build dates after 12/98 are 99.5's

Some of the many things that changed from 99 to 99.5 include:

99.5's got a larger turbo
99.5 after 3/1/99 got different brake rotors
99.5's got a larger 4x4 transmission filter on all the automatic transmissions.

I forget the rest of them, but I'm sure people will chime in with more items.

If you do find yourself with a 99.5, always ask for parts for a 2000 truck and you should be good to go. With the only exception of brake rotors since they upgraded them in the first week of March 99.

Re: 1999 vs. 1999.5 model

One other thing to keep an ear out for is a noisy torque converter in both 99 and 99.5 if you have an automatic transmission. Do a search for 99 torque converter and I'm sure you will find loads of info on that

Another easy way to tell which one you have is by looking for the Powerstroke badge.
Chances are if it is on the door, you have a 99.5.

Re: 1999 vs. 1999.5 model

Not to argue Bobcat..mine has them on the door..build date 10/98.
THE BEST WAY is to look at the Build tag..... They changed things little by little.. maybe a truck built the week before mine had the fender badges. But you cant tell at a glance accurately...

[/ QUOTE ] HUGE DIFFERENCE from 98 to 99,,, They never made a 98. LOL Went from the 97 body style...to the Superduty. Not sure what month they were available in 98 at the dealers..but never had a 98 year truck.
Except Rangers and F-150s of course.
