Asking the question for a friend, not the truck in the signature.
2001 F250 no aftermarket parts. 150K miles.
He said that it started missing occasionally while driving and slowly has gotten worse. Now it will start and sometimes drive for a mile or so (sometimes not) before starting to miss so bad that it isn't drivable. Shakes back and forth and almost stalls. It gets worse when you hit the gas and he said that he can't even build up any RPM's. Mechanic said that the injectors were bad and that happens on all the 7.3's at this mileage. But with all the work the mechanic wants to do, he was given a quote of $4K. Sounds unreasonable to me. And I don't even know if that is the problem. Does this sound like any problem anyone else has faced? And hopefully beaten for cheaper...
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

The so called mechanic is full of crap. I would not let him do anything. Injectors do not go bad at 150K, and 4K is way too much money. I would take it to someone that knows PSD's. It could be as simple as an injector wiring harness clip, UVC. Has the PCM been scanned for codes, fuel filter been serviced recently, etc. What diagnostics have been done? Your friend definately needs to get to an honest, and good PSD mechanic. Hopefully, someone knows of somebody close by. A call to Bob Riley at dieselsite.com, may be a good source.
