2001 F250 PSD replacement transmission choices?

I just bought a 2001 F250 SD PSD with an automatic transmission, mileage just under 100k. From reading here and elsewhere it seems that I may be in for a new transmission at some point. As I am all over the country camping I want to plan ahead. If the transmission does go what do I want to get as a replacement? I do plan to keep this truck for some time.

BTS (Brians Truck Shop)In ArKansas Best CS in the Busniess. IMO the best all around choice becasue everything is custome built.
Suncoast FL Good product
John Woods CA Uses a 6.0 TC re-packaged for the 7.3 Does not typically ship his units.

Re: 2001 F250 PSD replacement transmission choices?

First off welcome to the site (TDS).

Next, there is John Woods, Cal., Suncoast, Fl., and BTS, Arkansas, and I'm sure others, these are the popular 3. Others will chime in with the www.s. All make one heck of a tranny and pretty much stand behind them without question. One of the three even tells you to try and break it!!

Re: 2001 F250 PSD replacement transmission choices?

Thanks to all for the replies. As I am California based and most of my driving is around the western states John Woods seems a likely choice. Where is he located? njb

I like BTS, but you being in CA. John Woods is a good choice too!
Good luck, you may not need it for a good long while! But if your going to keep the truck then it is definately worth the "Bullit proof" tranny, investment when the time comes.

Re: 2001 F250 PSD replacement transmission choices?

The F250 has 140K miles on a $2,000 Ford rebuilt tranny. Stock truck but pulls very heavy and plows snow. Large tranny cooler, tranny guage, and in-line tranny filter.
