7.3 in v10's place

has anyone ever tried to transplant a 7.3 in to a v10 truck before I have a desire to change mine over I have the truck just the way I want it minus the diesel and have a chance to buy a rollover for a pretty good price with the 7.3 diesel in it

Re: 7.3 in v10's place

It would be a project for sure,,,,I am sure there are MANY Differences in it,,,maybe the frame and all up front...suspension for sure. But anything is doable I guess..especially if you have a "Donor" truck!
Dont remember anyone doing that swap on here...but who knows

Be sure you grab the rollover's PCM. It will be preprogrammed for you. Get the IDM also.

Re: 7.3 in v10's place

make sure that the rollover truck starts, with my experience in the towing business when a vehicle rolls over, even onto its side oil fills up the cylinders causing a hydrolock condition. if the truck was still running when it hydrolocked you might need a new motor aswell.

find out if the trans is still good too. you should be able to lot drive it and let it get warm to verify that the mechanicals are all still good.

i love doing projects like that, i converted a 2wd ranger to a 4wd using all ford stock I-beam suspention, alot of people told me that its not possible but i did it.

keep us up to date and make sure you take tons of pics for us to admire while your doing the swap!!!

Re: 7.3 in v10's place

Possibility of a Cummins transplant instead? When I did some research on buying a 5.4l Superduty for a Cummins transplant project I remember there being some issue around emissions since the truck would not have originally been a diesel truck. Don't know if that is an issue where you live or not.

Re: 7.3 in v10's place

no emission laws here in Michigan and I think it would be easier to drop what came from factory into the truck, I do appreciate the idea though ive been toying with that idea in a 87 chevy crew that I have.
