99 7.3 psd engine shutter/miss - help

engine developed shutter/miss recently, seems to be most noticable around 1500rpm. checked vc wiring harness and found one to be partially disconnected under passenger side. replaced gaskets and wiring harnesses on both sides but shutter/miss is still there just not as severe. did buzz test on injectors and tested fine. cps was replaced under recall about a year ago. the biggest problem that has me stumped is that its not showing any codes! any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When I had an injector go bad, it did just that. Passed the "Buzz" test, but failed the CCT. (You have not had those done yet I assume) But the symptoms were just that. Shudder at mid range RPM, under light acceleration. Do you think you have even the slightest miss at idle? (IF your straight piped it's SOO much easier to tell LOL) You can pull the valve covers, plug the main harness back in, and unplug each injector one at a time. See if the idle does not change for one of them. IF that's the case that is your bad one.

Not saying for SURE that is your problem. But my 99 did just that, it was my first diesel, and I didn't know what to think. Took it and had it diagnosed, then replaced it myself. Not terribly hard.

My 2000 is doing the same exact thing. I just replaced the CPS 3 weeks ago. Maybe a bad Injector ?????

In short, check the Glow Plug Relay.

My '02 F350 7.3 started cutting out while accelerating. This usually happened @ 1500 - 2000rpm. The "water fuel", "glow plug", and "engine" lights would come on for one to two seconds then go off once I lifted my foot from the accelerator pedal. When the lights came on, my truck would drop from whatever rpm range it was at to roughly 700rpm, my idle speed. I ran diagnostics on a scanner, but it didn't have any codes. I started tracing wires and connections and found the problem to be a burnt Glow Plug Relay. It must have been sending a voltage spike and would reset while driving. I replaced the GPR last week and not had the problem since.

Not sure if its your problem, but thats what worked in my case.

thanks for the heads up on that, that would be a quicker and easier fix than an injector!

I haven't heard of this one, but I do know that if the wiring harness that runs over the drivers valve cover chaffes and shorts against the valve cover (or behind the 42 pin connector) it will cause the WIF, GP, & CEL lights to act funny. Can even cause stalling and no start issues. The only code was a KAM error.

My truck is doing the same thing, what is a CCT test? I am new to Powerstrokes, have had 6.9 & 7.3 IDI's for years and this is my first Powerstroke.

It's a test on the engine run by a scanner.

Just had a scanner run on my truck and 2 codes came up,

Code P1690 something to do with the wastegate, he was not sure what that was about.

Code P0470 EBV, told me to thake sensor off and clean it and make sure the tube was clear, that I I did, nothing changed.
