Air Flow Questions

I have a 2000 F350 7.3, crew/dually, 2wd. Had it for 2 months. Stock, as far as I know. Pull a small boat and have a slide-in camper (3400#). Truck runs good, but would like to increase the air flow (or decrease restriction). Just bought an Airaid intake. Based on some reading, I was thinking of adding another duct to the air box. Does the existing air duct allow the turbo to pull the air with ease or would more airflow into the box help? Maybe the filter is still the limiting factor for airflow and it doesn't need another duct? This is a volume versus turbo need question. Technical insight is appreciated.

Also, I have a standard exhaust system - but no cat. Was thinking about a dual exhaust to lower backpressure. Maybe a larger single exhaust is just as good. Don't know that I want to get rid of muffler, truck is loud enough as is. Plan to install gauges for EGT, Trans temp & Oil temp. Thanks

Re: Air Flow Questions

Get a 4" turbo back exhaust, the sound is nice and you will pick up a little performance. You can also just put a straight pipe on it ,but then it gets a bit loud from what i've heard. I don't know much about Air aid intakes,I went with a AFE because it works really good, easy install for a guy who just knows the basics.

Re: Air Flow Questions

If after installing the intake you don't get any or little black smoke on aggresive acceleration then your getting enough air, at least I think. I have never heard of anyone adding additional ducts, you could perform the zoo-dad mod where you cut holes in your radiator support area to allow more air flow to the filter. I have a DIY intake (#6637 Napa air filter with a piece of 4" pipe to attach), have perfomed a mod similar to the zoo-dad, and 4" exhaust with muffler and I get hardly any black smoke on acceleration. I would also consider a boost gauge, can be helpful when pulling.
I am sure "smarter" individuals than I will reply in time with better or more options.
Good Luck
