Another ESOF set of tests.....Possibly narrowed down

Since my other post here seems to have run its course I decided to start another one as I think I have it narrowed down.

Ran a MityVac test as suggested on the solenoid
------------------------------------------------------

Key on, vent on, fan on low, ESOF turned to 4x4 Hi ....

Passenger side plugged w/ golf tee and driver side hooked to Mityvac

--Engagement 30" for 40 secs......disengagement 15" at 12 sec

Drivers side plugged w/ golf tee and passenger side hooked to Mityvac

--Engagement 30" for 40 secs......disengagement 15" at 12 sec

Did this twice per side. Seems like solenoid is fine.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hooked Mity Vac directly up to driver's side hub that has never been replaced....held 20lbs on two squeezes of Mity Vac

Passenger side hub that was changed a year ago would not hold anything. I am thinking this is the culprit. Would the Ford Diesel brain trust agree?

If so...besides the main yellow seal, what else do i need to replace?. This is a brand new hub....as of a year ago. And where is the best place to get the seals?

Thanks fellas.....almost got this done..

Try this, it's for replacing your ball joints but it should help you out.

There is a seal on the axle where it goes into the knuckle. Then there is an o ring on the outside of the unit bearing where it fits into the knuckle.Next there is an o ring on the lock out hub where it fits into the unit bearing. If those are ok the only thing left is theseals in the locking hub itself and I don't know if they are replaceable.

Tackling this job tomorrow....replacing shocks, steering stabilizer then jumpin' off into the knuckle seal installation.....

Hopefully it goes smooth...with all the reading I have done about it, I might be able to do it in the dark...

Just to conclude since a majority of the threads I have been reading do not come back and confirm the problem they had after posting their questions and troubleshooting .

My vacuum problem ended up being the knuckle seal on the hub I replaced just over a year ago..... After changing my shocks and steering stabilizer, I tackled the dreaded knuckle seal. After reading some nightmare type stories of ruining seals with the "homemade tool" made from galvanized pipe, I made sure my flange tool was shaved down so it went down into the seal and rode on the meat of the metal as mentioned here. After greasing the seal, and cleaning up the axle area the seal was to slide onto, it went on like clockwork with just a couple of good solid whacks on the homemade tool with a hammer..

The rest of it went just as smooth. 3 hours total including the shock and steering stabilizer installs. I would caution one to make sure you have the rotor shield on correctly before you tighten all the bolts down......don't ask me how I know......

Took her for a drive with the new "ride" and shifted her into 4x4HI.....She shifted in and out just fine and my AC stayed in the vents......

Knuckle Seal Part Napa Part # 28600 bought locally .....SKS brand $31.50..(Ford wanted $59)

Yellow o-ring $4.75...from Ford house.

Thank you gentlemen for all your help.....no telling how much money this place saved me this weekend......plus it gave me a much needed refresher on the hub bearings in case my other one goes out.

LOL @ brain trust. Congrats on getting her fixed. That yellow seal can be a total PITA.
