Pardon my naivety, how would the Int/Exh stands breaking affect the engines ability to maintain oil pressure? Is there oil passage in the push rod galley that flooded with oil? Was the push rods ejected from their locations? Kinda puzzled (not hard to do really)

Oil is fed throught the lifter oil galley around the lifters and up the pushrod. The rockers act as a dam to regulate the amount of oil that is fed to the top of the motor. Without the rockers oil pressure was bleeding off around the lifters and causing low oil pressure.

Well there ya go, learn something new all the time! Thanks, makes sense. I figured there had to be a relationship to the valve train oil circuit. To bad the space allocated in our instrument panel for the oil pressure gauge is wasted, you'd a known right off there was a problem Houston.
