Auto hub won't disengage.

My '01 F-250'S drivers side auto hub will not disengage out of 4wd. The passengers side works fine. I had disassembled and cleaned both hub assemblies. I have no problems with my heater controls. Does this still sound like a vacuum problem or am I dealing with something else. Thanks.

I have tried to manually turn the wheel while the front end is on jackstands. I am able to get the right front to release, but not the left front.

Tap the rim of the dial face of the lockout with rubber hammer while rotating as you were both forward and/or reverse.

Pull them out and lubricate them per Guzzles Instructions. This should help the problem.

Do what Woodnthings says, remove both, dissassemble and clean, then lube. Should be good for several years..

Send a message via ICQ to kcastle
Mine get stuck and I have had the vacuum capped for some time. I usually take a small pry-bar and wiggle the axle shaft in and out. This seems to free them.

remove the locking hub and push the white plastic plate in the bottom of the hub with a screwdriver. It should stay down when you push on it. reinstall the hub.
