bad TC? how can you tell....... - Diesel Forum

How can you tell if your TC is going bad? mine trucks developed a knock or somthing a little while ago but it went away but not its back and i think its a little worse now than before. Its there at idle and when i accelerate but its not there if i'm just holding speed.

What do you guys think? I don't have a gauge to check fuel pressure but i'm working on trying to find a gauge not on the internet.

Crawl underneath the tranny bell housing at idle - you shoud hear it there. Some of the earlier TCs were known to rattle - it will sound like your trck is getting louder. You might hear it under the truck better.

If you are feeling really ambitious, splice into the TC lockup wire at the tranny and ground it at idle in park - if the sound goes away, it is the TC.

Some say it sounds like shaking marbles in a coffee can if you put your ear near the bell housing. Use a stetoscope (or a long broom stick on your ear) if you do not want to get near the bell housing.

Will it rattle in park or do i need to put it in gear to check it?????? I guess i wouldn't saw it really sounds like marbles?
