Crawl underneath the tranny bell housing at idle - you shoud hear it there. Some of the earlier TCs were known to rattle - it will sound like your trck is getting louder. You might hear it under the truck better.
If you are feeling really ambitious, splice into the TC lockup wire at the tranny and ground it at idle in park - if the sound goes away, it is the TC.
