boost leak

I have 03 7.3 f250 first thing in the moring when I start it and don't let it warm up when I mash the go pedal I get alot of black smoke and a very noticeabal loss of power. When engine warms up it runs great no smoke and pleanty of power. Last fall did same thing and tightened all clamps and it fixed it tightened all clamps this time and did not work. I do have alot of oil or soot around the orange boot going into the intake on drivers side. Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any help.

Larry

Your "problem" is probably the exhaust back pressure valve working like it's designed to. It restricts flow thru the turbo (and reduces boost) until the engine is fully warmed up. It does open when you hammer the go-pedal, but can't do that instantaneously, thus the black smoke.
