Re: Can't get over 13mpg!! Might Sell :(

12.5-13.5 for me with the current lousy fuel available. I do 55 regularly....between lights....in a 30 mph zone.

I have been noticing a real lousy transmission shifting strategy for getting good mpg's with my tow based tunes. Second gear revs way too high then holds there for a few seconds before shifting into third, and the TC doesn't stay locked low enough nor does it lock soon enough. I'll be calling Jody about this.

What about the idea of E85 or a hybrid?
I almost got an e300d also, but after researching I got a brand new VW Passat TDI for less than a used Mercedes. Better fuel mileage, low 40s hiway, low 30s city and less quality issues. You can pay more for the name, but they have more expensive problems also.

Sigh I know. That is the smartest move by far. But I just can't go from a crew cab f250 to a passat. I am 6'3 and while the MB is not huge, it at least "fits" me better.

You know, I'm 6' and there is a lot of room both up and down in a Passat, much more than a jetta or golf. TDI versions are hard to find though, only 04s and 05s were made. Forget the 90s versions, too small and wimpy.

There is enough room for me, but now put my 5'8 13 year old daughter behind me, then my 5 year old next to her, and my 5'9 wife in the passenger seat. Now drive 5 hours It gets real small real quick. My wife has an Audi A6 wagon and I fit fine, until you start to add people.

Now put those same people in my crew cab... ahhh. Hahaha. I think I need 2 cars. A commuter and "Big Truck" as the family calls it.

Re: Can't get over 13mpg!! Might Sell :(

My Dodge Ram SRT-10 gets 8 MPG. If that makes you feel any better. I can eek 16 out of my powerstroke. My friend has an '03 Dodge cummins and claims 13 MPG also. Both of us use to get better. But then again my gas vehicles use to get better milage also. I think there really starting to cut the gas with ethanol big time, and that makes the milage suffer. My SRT-10 got 13 when I first got it in december of 2004. My milage droped sharply twice in that vehicle. First to 10 mpg then again to 8 mpg just last august. The only way I have ever driven this truck was foot to the floor and jamin gears since day one. I did'nt even give it the 500 mile break in. So why the sharp drop I milage twice, on an engine thats probably very sincitive to the quility of fuel it gets. We all know what has happened to the new ULSD in the past few months. If I'm getting poor fuel economy because of all this so be it. Theres nothing I can do. But I'll also be damed if I'm gonna ride around in some Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, 1978 Diesel Benz because of it.
