Autozone carries it, and I believe I saw it at NAPA the last time I was in there.

Re: Changing from Green to Gold Coolant in a 7.3L PSD

the autozone here in my town carried it at one time, but they stopped, and NAPA has never carried it here ... i couldn't find the G-05 anywhere, so i used the Ford gold coolant ... got my dealer down to $9/gal.

You might check with your local Ford dealer since it seems that this coolant is fairly reasonable (~$10/gal) at most dealerships.

Re: Changing from Green to Gold Coolant in a 7.3L PSD

Listen to this: I go to 3 different stealerships in the area to find out what antifreeze I can use in my truck. You guessed it, 3 different answers. So thank you SmokeyWren for the clear instructions on how to change it AND the fact that it is O.K. to switch from Green to Gold.

I bought mine at Autozone. But my Ford dealer's price on the one gallon of the Motorcraft Premium Gold I bought later was only a quarter per gallon higher.

Re: Changing from Green to Gold Coolant in a 7.3L PSD

i was in the dealership buying a pint of coolant additive on friday. i asked the service manager how much to switch my green coolant to the maintance free gold. He was very quick to say No. If it started with green leave it green. Ford is looking into problems with motors that have switched from green to gold. This dealership has always treated me awesome and i didn't even buy my truck from them.
You might want to think twice about switching.

Re: Changing from Green to Gold Coolant in a 7.3L PSD

I recently switched from green to gold using the procedure described by Smokey but would suggest 2 options. I used the Prestone flushing kit but kept the OEM heater hose intact and used a short piece of heater hose to add the flushing kit. This way, you can remove the flushing tee after flushing and return to the original configuration. I would also suggest that when you go to the autoparts store to buy your antifreeze, purchase a small sheet of gasket material. When you remove the thermostat housing, use the housing as a pattern and cut a temporary gasket to use between the housing and the water pump. If you do not do this, be prepared to have a leak (housing will not seal with thermostat removed) at the housing when running the engine while flushing. This leak finds it way to the cooling fan and slings the diluted water/antifreeze mix everywhere.

Another excellent idea and what I also did to speed up the fushing thing and keep things somewhat clean.
