Changing my own transmission fluid, what to use?

I decided to change my trans fluid, what all do I need to do, are there any filters or additives that I should use, and what fluid is best? Thanks again in advance.

One bit of advice is-->If you do alot of towing or heavy hauling.

I would switch to a good synthetic, and ya might think about adding a spin-on type filter system. Very easy to install.

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Re: Changing my own transmission fluid, what to use?

Ford says you don't need to change the filter, but I do anyway, I would just use a good dino Mercon/DexronIII nothing with Mercon V on the bottle. Follow the directions in the link above and you will be good to go. If you do a lot, and I mean a lot of towing a synthetic may be the right choice. For me it was a waist of money, I had heard mythes of lower trans temps using synthetic, but this was all hype!!
