clutch

I have a buddy with an early 99 f550 psd diesel all stock with a 5 speed tranny i pulled the inspection plate off for the clucth in bottom of bell housing and found some strips of metal roughly 1/8 to 1/4 thick and approx a foot long what would these be from in the bellhousing had no symptoms just looking to see if rear seal was leaking. Do these have the dual mass flywheel and is coming apart? but theres no vibration or rattle that i could tell. thanks in advance

Re: clutch

Get this back to the top; the situation doesn't sound promising. Could be the pilot bearing??? You need to pop that thing back a few inches and take a peek if you can.

Re: clutch

There is a large steel spacer plate that mounts between the engine block and the bellhousing. It is approx. 3/16" thick and has narrow sections. If the bellhousing bolts become loose, it might be possible for the spacer plate to fracture and the pieces fall into the bellhousing. Replacement requires sliding the tranny back about 10".

Re: clutch

most e99 don't have dmass flywheels but if you have 130xxx miles get ready for a clutch springs come out of the disk and first you think its master slave problem but everyone I have talked to have changed them out for no real reason (not bad after all) but I do like the LUK replacement.
