code 0606

I've got an early 99 srw auto 350 7.3 that shuts off any time it wants highway speeds ,slow, does not matter. just put the recall cps in ran great for a week or so. I have had this problem on and off over the years that I've had the truck, have gotten all kinds of different codes every time this has happened but the last two times I have have had a 0606 code (pcm not communicating) or somthing like that any ideas where to go from here. thanks in advance.

DIC = P0606
Circuit = PCED
Problem = PCM processor fault
Probable cause = Internal PCM failure

Cruising down the highway with my RV trailer, mine died. After a few minutes it cranked up and ran for another mile or so. Then it did it again. I was able to cross the barrow ditch to the service road, and made it to the side of the service road before it died again. So I called a tow truck.

When a tech informed me of the "failure to communicate", that meant the PCM was fried. The only alternative was to buy and install a new PCM.

That was back in 2004, and dealer (on the road, not my dealer) charged me $372.56 net, plus tax. You can buy one today from DP-Tuner for $325 with a stock tune, or for $400 with your choice of Jody's tunes.
