Coolant Advice

I know this has probably been covered extensivly but I am not very good at searches. I would like to change out the coolant in my 2002 7.3. Is there a good premix with SCA's already added that I can use?

Totally flush your system and replace the coolant with a red coolant that is for diesels. Read the label on what you buy to know exactly which type you bought and the maintenance of that coolant. Research the coolant before you buy, because heavy duty elc coolants never need sca added to them and last a very long time.

Fleetcharge is a pre-charged coolant, but like 01f25073 says, I would use an ELC - which is usually a wonderful Aggie maroon color, except my roll tide friend says its Crimson - but what does he know...

Anyway, I found this link was a good read - scroll down to Gooch's post:

Look for any coolant with a Cat-EC1 specification. I use a brand called Final Charge.

Mine turned MAROON today, it was a totally unexpected transition from Crimson to MAROON. One thing about a tide, it always rolls back in.

You're a good sport! The tide almost rolled back in after the first quarter. We can't seem to keep the momentum up much longer than that...

A&M is having a decent season since they no longer have to deal with the tougher teams of the Big 12.

I've been using CAT EL-1 for 10 years in my 2001 F-250. I buy it at the local CAT dealer. Flush and refill the system several times with plain tap water, then drain completely and refill with straight distilled water (less than $1. a gallon at WalMart). Run the engine up to temperature between each refill cycle to be sure the thermostat opens. Better yet, take it for a short ride. Buy the concentrate, not the pre-diluted, and mix with 50% distilled water.

Caterpillar. Good for 300k, add a pint of stuff, good for another 300k.

Nationwide dealers, so you can always get support for it. What more would there need to be?

If you insist on throwing parts at your truck to fix the problem, go big--don't forget the driver's side frame rail.

If your ICP connector has oil in it, change it. Don't argue, just change it. Don't check other things first, just change it.

It would appear having Crimson as your school color is bad for one's health!
