Couple of Transmission Questions

So the transmission started going yesterday on my truck. Did a fluid and filter swap today to check things out and the old fluid was burnt and had a lot of metal in it.

Found a low mileage 4R100 out of a 2002 F250 for a really good price that will come with a warranty. Not sure yet if it's a 2wd or 4wd unit.

Couple of questions...

Is there a difference between the 2wd and 4wd 4R100's? (aside from the 4wd having a deeper pan and different filter)

Would a 2002 model 4R100 work in my 2000 model truck?

Thanks in advance.

A 4R100 from a '99-'03 will work in your truck. I doubt the 2wd version will work but I suppose if you wanted to swap out the tail housing around you might be able to get it to work. You need to make sure it is a 4R100 out of a 7.3 diesel though.

Yes, it is out of a diesel truck. I'm aware that the gas/diesel bell housing bolt patters are different.

I've confirmed also that it was out of a 4wd truck, so hopefully this will end up being a quick/cheap fix.

Thanks!

You have to change the output shafts. pretty much complete disassembly.

That's what I was thinking. But not for sure. Thanks.
