CPS effect on Tuner/Programmer (any connection??)

Just curious if my tuner/programmer us useless now that I have changed out the CPS. Is there a direct relation to MPG?
Will the tuner parameters be forever off now that the CPS is different?
I guess a better way to ask the question is…Did the EDGE engineers use the parameters from the original CPS to develop the tuner/programmer or is it simply a “sensor” and unrelated to the tuner?
I have noticed a drop in MPG and the only thing that has changed is the CPS.
I had been getting about 19 mpg hwy in my 2001 Excursion 7.3 – since the “upgraded” CPS I’m getting about 15-16 mpg at best.
Thanks for the help

The CPS just tells the PCM the position of the camshaft (and the piston). It's just a sensor. It may be possible the the changed CPS has a slightly physically different sensing point, but to change timing drasticaly, the notched wheel on the cam gear that the sensor "looks at" would have to have moved.
