CPS went for the second time!

I can't believe these things are so unreliable. My first one lasted about 40K miles now this one has only lasted 24K miles. Is this the reliability of these things? Both times luckily I have been in an area where I was ok to be able to push the truck outta the way. (HEAVY!!) This time I actually went to international to buy one so hopefully this one will last a little longer. I make alot of early morning trips to the coast to fish and that is the last thing I need to go out my trip at 4 am. How long are others getting out of there cps's? Anyway just had to vent as it really sucks to have the dodges rolling by with you sitting there with a dead truck due to some dumb little part that is so unreliable.

Re: CPS went for the second time!

Buy 2 and carry a spare. SOP for those engines, however they usually last longer than that. At least the factory ones do. I have had them go out anywhere between 40 and 70K miles.

Unfortunately they are all made by the same company, a joint venture between Ford and Navistar (International).

I am really surprised that these are not being produced by an after market company by now.

With the rate of failure on these goodies it sure is about time for some type of action by Ford/International.

Re: CPS went for the second time!

Ours went at 43K. 2002 F350 PSD 4X4.

Interesting, Toyota is possibly looking into the Prius Hybrid for unexpecting shutting down at high speeds.
