Just got done installing a dual HPOP setup and had an oil leak or two due to not tightning connections as I should have. Finally got all the leaks fixed, which I should have never had if I would have tightened right the first time. But anyways, ran the truck about two or more quarts low and it died on me while test driving the new setup. Finally pulled over and looked again for an oil leak and couldn't see any in the valley so checked the dip stick and it was low. Must have already leaked out before I got the leaks fixed. I know I should have checked oil before I made the test run but didn't think I lost that much oil to start off. Just wondering if anyone can confirm running low on oil will cut the engine, due to not enough oil to keep the HPOP's fully charged? Do you think I have done any damage to the engine or any components?
Well, I got my wife to bring some oil to me and once I got it filled back up the truck worked great. It ran like it had a chip in it even though I didn't have one in it yet.

No, the reason the truck dies is because the oil is too low to pressurize in the HPOP(s) to fire the injectors. It's commonly stated that they protect themselves because the lower end is still lubricated when it dies.
Unless twin HPOPs change this.....
I wouldn't worry about it.
I do not think Twins will change that theory at all! I also dont think you hurt it any...(Well maybe you damaged the Dual HPOP system by running it low.,,, I think you should remove it now and sell it cheap, it may be junk,,, I would do you a favor and take it off your hands,,no one wants to just keep junk laying around their garage,,right?)
I am jealous of ya, I want twins,,and will get them some day I bet,,,but not right away. Keep us posted on fuel milage and such, with the Dual system and no chip! How long untill you chip it? Going to drive it that way for a while???

Thanks for all the responses. Makes me feel better already. I had in the back of mind when this all happened what you all said, just needed it confirmed.
Jim, I appreciate the concern about getting rid of junk, but I think I will hold onto it for awhile. Once I got the right amount of oil in it, for the short time I ran it home, just with dual HPOPs it ran like it had a chip in it. I am waiting on my new programming to max this engine out safely. The first set of programming I got I had some problems, not sure what, but the truck wouldn't start. Tried all the normal procedures, clean contacts, etc. but no start, it could just be me. I hope to get that resolved soon.
