Died just like you turned off they key

The truck has started dying just like someone turned off the key. I changed the CPS (black ford), problem still there. I don't have a code reader. When it dies I do get the low fuel level, water and wait to start lights. Oil level is good, changed 1000 miles ago. On second tank of diesel since problem started.

Sometimes it restarts while coasting without turning the key. Other times after stopping it will immediately restart and sometimes it has to sit a few minutes. Once last week after turning it off I tried to immediately restart with no luck.

This could happen at any time, accelerating, with cruise and stopping.

Any Ideas

When's the last time the fuel filter was changed? Have you drained the fuel bowl in case there's water in there?

Ok.....I'd look in the following areas (but I'm just guessing without hard data to go by):

Fuel pump
IPR
ICP
HPOP
clogged fuel pickup in tank
CPS- change to a known good one

Gotta get the truck scanned!

I'm thinking maybe a marginal PCM power relay, or possibly a fuse that's loose in it's socket.

Also, when the CPS was changed, did you look at the connections? Corroded wiring connections might cause that.

While ideling in the driveway, I pushed on the computer and it died. When I installed the Superchips chip in 2002 the directions said to put a piece of duct tape over the chip and use a tiewrap instead of the original bolt to hold everything in place.

Well the duct tape wasn't holding anymore and the tiewrap hade everything loose letting the chip become loose. I replaced the duct tape and used the original bolt, everything is tight now.

It must have been loose for some time because it now seem like I have a new truck. Most notable thing is a pulse in the breaks that I thought was a warped rotor is now gone. I now have a little more power and it runs smother.
