Diesel leaks caused by new low-sulfer fuels

Anyone have any experience with this? I came home from a ten day vacation and found diesel leaking from the fuel/water seperator - local ford dealer charged me nearly $300.00 for a new fuel valve asy - a friend had the same thing and he was charged $60.00 for a new o-ring.

[/ QUOTE ]Look at the sticky note at the top of this forum. Also read some of the ULSD threads on this page. Many are experiencing the same thing.

Re: Diesel leaks caused by new low-sulfer fuels

Here is a link to the post regarding this issue. It seems lots of folks are having problems with these O rings after using the new fuel for a few tanks. Others say it is impossible. Sure seems like something is causing all these trucks to start leaking.

Re: Diesel leaks caused by new low-sulfer fuels

Wow! $300! That's a new definition for hiway robbery! When my valve started leaking a month ago, my mechanic spent several hours diagnosing and trying to save me some money. In the end, he got the water separator valve part from Ford ($51.00), and one hour's labor to install it ($50.00) Total with tax, etc. was $110. Man, do I feel fortunate.
Oh, and for what its worth, I had not knowingly been using ULSD. I was on my 3rd tank of B-20, though.

Re: Diesel leaks caused by new low-sulfer fuels

short_stuff that is the answer. It is very obvious the new fuel is causing our old o-rings to fail. I was in the first wave I think but have gone through this before. Usually about every 2 years I need to replace the unit. I choose to replace the unit, however you can purchase o-rings and not replace the unit. My mechanic likes to just get the part and put it in. I let him do it as I am not such a good contortunist...
The sticky has all you need to know and is excellent.
