Diesel Smell

I am having a really bad diesel smell in the the cab of my truck. I have a late model 1999 Ford F250 with the 7.3 engine. It looks like it might be leaking around the passenger side. The passenger side fender always has oil coating on it. I cannot see where it is coming from. When you load the truck up the smell gets worse. Any ideas? Re: Diesel Smell

Maybe your fuel filter "V" seal is leaking from under the cap. Also possible leak from the water drain valve on the back side of the filter. Mine did leak at the seal and filled the valleys in the Hell hole. Lately the filter seals seem not as good as they used to be.

Re: Diesel Smell

Check both the filter cap [o-ring seal] and the drain valve under the filter. Prolly a leak. I neglected to properly seat the cap when I changed the filter and suffered through about 90 days of smelly diesel [ok by me, but my wife and dog had fits ] from the 'spray' of diesel under the hood, despite repeated underhood [and vent intake] cleanings.
