Do I have the trans diode, and got my recall notice for possible fire!

How can I tell if I have a diode trans? It's a 2001 F-350, psd.

PS. Just got my brake fluid fire hazard recall in the mail!

There's a data tag in the driver's door opening. It will have a month and year of manufacture. If it is from July, 2000, through March, 2001, you probably have a mechanical diode. If it was built after March, 2001, you almost certainly do not have one.

ugg, I've got an 01/01 date on the door!
Ive got 128K miles. How can I tell if it is has already been broken and repaired?
Is there a pre-emptive fix I can do to the diode before it breaks and trashes the trans?

I've also got a ford sticker under the hood for an authorized modification. Although the ink has faded so bad, that I can't read what the modification was!

Can the ford dealer tell what mod was made from the vin?

Yes there is. Take the trans out and get it rebuilt.

Authorized modifications are changes to the PCM, not to the transmission.

The dealer can run an OASIS report and tell you all the work that was done to the truck at Ford dealers.

My 2k F250 has a build date of 7/00. It has 202000 miles on it. I bought it with @197000 miles on it. I have no idea what has been done to it. What are the chances it has the original tranny w/ mechanical diode?

The chances are absolutely zero. No 2000 model year truck had a mechanical diode. It started with the first 2001 truck.
