Everything I've heard about Jody and Diane at DP-Tuner.com is that they are wonderful. Jody know his business and is an outstanding tuner. Diane runs the office and is a real sweetheart. I don't think you can go wrong with their stuff or their customer service.
Unless you try to get by cheap and don't install gauges before you plug in a hot-rod tune of any sort. But if you have aftermarket gauges, then you can't go wrong with DP-Tuner tunes.
In case you are confused, there are two kinds of "tuners". One is a human bean that is also a computer programmer. If the computer program he writes happens to be a tune installed in the main computer in our trucks, the PCM, then that tuner might be Jody Tipton at DP-Tuner.
The other kind is a small computer called a tuner or programmer or tuner/programmer, such as the SCT X3 sold by DP-Tuner. That sort of tuner works well with DP-Tuner tunes, but it's not suitable for the exhaust brake tune because it takes two or three minutes to change tunes in the X3.
So when you say "this tuner" I hope you're talking about Jody, and not the X3.
If you buy the F5 or F6 milti-position chip with controller (tune selector), then one of the "tunes" available is exhaust brake combined with torque converter controller. The exhaust brake tune works fine in a multi-position chip with a controller that allows you to change tunes instantly.
The exhaust brake is a fairly new tune by Jody, and I haven't heard any reports about it from actual users yet. But based on his other tunes, I'm sure he did a good job on that one, too.
But note that the exhaust brake tune is good only for going down the mountain with a heavy trailer pushing you faster than you want to go. So mash the button for the exhaust brake tune at the top of the pass, and use it until you get to the bottom of the grade, then select a different towing tune and go on about your business.
I bought an exhaust brake/torque converter controller from SP-Diesel before Jody had a tune that would do something similar. I'm happy with my choice. But you can add the exhaust brake tune to an F5 or F6 chip for less than $100, while my SP-Diesel exhaust brake cost almost $400. So if you're going to buy a towing tune on a multi-position chip anyway, you might as well pay a bit extra and get the exhaust brake tune for "comin' down the mountain".
